Robert Nesta ‘Bob’ Marley was a Jamaican reggae artist, musician, guitarist and songwriter who achieved international acclaim and fame. He was born on February 6, 1945 and died on May 11, 1981 in Miami at the age of 36. According to medical records, Marley died of a type of malignant melanoma, which had attacked under the nail of his toe.

Starting out in 1963 with a group called “The Wailers”; Bob Marley came up with a distinctive songwriting and vocal styles, which would later resonate with audience all over the world. The Wailers was famous, and it would go on to release some of the earliest reggae records with Lee “Scratchy” Perry, one of the most celebrated producers at that time.

Despite the disbandment of The Wailers in 1974, Marley’s dreams did not shatter, as he relocated to England to pursue a solo career. In 1977, the career culminated in the release of the album “Exodus”, which not only established his reputation worldwide but also produced his status as one of the world’s best-selling artist of all time, with sales of over 75 million records. The year 1978 saw him release other albums such as “kaya”, which included hit singles like “Satisfy My Soul” and “Is This Love”.

Although his parents were staunch followers and believers of the Roman Catholic Church, Bob Marley was committed to the Rastafarian Religion. According to him, the religion infused his music with a sense of spirituality, and this molded him. Until now, Robert Nesta “Bob” Marley is one of the world’s most influential musicians of all time. Ideally, he is credited with popularizing reggae music around the world and serving as a symbol of Jamaican identity and culture.
