Born in 1904, in Springfield Massachusetts, Dr. Theodor Seuss was a writer, and illustrator best known for writing some of the most popular children’s books under the pen name Dr. Seuss. After studying at Dartmouth, Seuss attended Oxford University with the aim of becoming a professor. This is where he found his sweetheart Helen whom he wedded in 1927 before dropping out of the university. Later on, they moved back to England.

Upon returning to England, he decided to be a full-time cartoonist. This landed him a job as a cartoonist. He later on, wrote for Standard Oil in the advertisement department for 15 years. In 1937, he published his first children’s book. During the World War II, he worked in the animation department of the US army and produced several films.

A major change in his life came when he criticized children’s reading level in life magazine where he was asked to write a 200-word vocabulary. The resulting piece was called The Cat in The Hat which was quite a success. 16 of his publications are currently on the list of 100 top selling children books of all the time. Dr Seuss died of oral cancer on September 24, 1994, in La Jolla when he was 84 years. In 2015, a publishing house announced that they intend to publish Dr Seuss’s book What Pet should I Get after finding a manuscript in the author’s home.
